The 18th Heluo Culture Seminar took place in Luoyang, Central China's Henan province, on Oct 25, bringing together almost 200 scholars and representatives from both sides of the Taiwan Strait and Hong Kong to discuss Heluo culture and the modern civilization of the Chinese nation.
The seminar was co-hosted by the Committee on Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, the CPPCC Henan provincial committee and the Chinese Culture Research Institute.
Su Hui, vice-chairwoman of the CPPCC National Committee and chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League (TDSL), attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.
Su said that, since its inception, the Chinese Culture Research Institute has pursued research into and interpretation and promotion of Heluo culture, which has a footprint spanning from the country's central part to the southeastern coast and into Taiwan region. These efforts fostered Heluo culture's role as a bridge for promoting cultural confidence and enhancing unity among the Chinese people, she added.
Su called for further exploration of Heluo culture's rich connotations, distinct characteristics and modern relevance, looking for theoretical and practical paths for the culture's creative transformation and innovative development in the new era.
Research needs to be conducted with a focus on inheritance and promotion while demonstrating the distinctive advantages of Heluo culture in order to better serve the reunification of the motherland and rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, she added.
