Wang Yong, vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, led a team from the Committee on Economic Affairs of the CPPCC National Committee to Southwest China's Sichuan province from Oct 20 to 24 to survey enterprise-led integration of industry, academia, research and application.

The team visited industrial parks, factories, research and development centers, and production facilities in the cities of Chengdu, Deyang and Yibin. They held discussions with officials of local government organizations, heads of enterprises, frontline researchers and workers to gain a comprehensive understanding of Sichuan's experience and innovative measures in fostering in-depth integration.

The team noted that Sichuan has fully tapped the abundant innovation resources and talent in local universities and research institutes to advance the deep integration of innovation, industry, capital and talent chains, resulting in the growth of leading high-tech enterprises and solid progress in the high-quality development of modern industries.

The team stressed the need to improve the demand-driven, application-oriented and enterprise-centered industrial technology innovation system that integrates industry, academia, research and application. It is essential to enhance enterprises’ roles in decision-making in technological innovation, and to focus on achieving breakthroughs in core technologies in key fields that hold up national security endeavor and industrial development, according to the team. More needs to be done to support enterprises in forming systematic and task-based innovation consortia, promote the agglomeration of innovation factors at enterprises, and facilitate the transformation and industrialization of sci-tech outcomes, they said.

They added that the CPPCC must maximize its role as a specialized consultative body to survey and identify barriers in this regard, and to offer insights and recommendations accordingly, to contribute to accelerating the development of new quality productive forces and advancing the development of a modernized industrial system.
