A team of non-Communist Party of China members from the Committee on Proposals of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee conducted an inspection in East China's Jiangsu province from Oct 14 to 18, focusing on the development of social welfare and charity work, one of the key proposals submitted to this year's CPPCC National Committee session.
Yang Zhen, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party, led the inspection team and delivered remarks at a meeting held in Suzhou.
The team visited charitable organizations, local Red Cross Society offices, welfare homes, rehabilitation centers, villages, communities, hospitals, schools and museums in the cities of Yancheng, Nantong and Suzhou, inspecting local development in the social welfare sector, learning about their experience and practices, and supervising the handling of related key proposals.
The team engaged in in-depth discussions with grassroots officials, local residents, and entrepreneurs, where they reached broad consensus on facilitating the positive role of the social welfare sector in emergency relief, education and sci–tech development, healthcare and medical assistance, and rural vitalization.
The team emphasized the importance of promoting the concept of charity and fostering an enabling social atmosphere and cultural ethos where the entire society cares about, supports and participates in charity work.
They called for the effective implementation of the newly revised Charity Law, urging timely detection of new problems, summarization of new experiences, and continuous improvement of relevant regulations and systems. The CPPCC should maximize its role as a specialized consultative body to enhance survey and consultation effort, they added.
During the inspection, Yang also visited Suzhou University and met with several CPPCC National Committee members.
Additionally, as part of CPPCC National Committee members' "serving the people" initiative, the China Charity Federation made coordinated efforts with philanthropic enterprises to donate medical and living supplies to relevant organizations.
