Wang Huning, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), has urged CPPCC members to place a focus on the mental health of minors to ensure their healthy development.
Wang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks at a biweekly consultation session of the national committee on Oct 18, over which he presided.
Wang called on CPPCC members to conduct thorough research on key issues related to the mental health of minors, and to offer practical and feasible policy recommendations.
He also called for the effective implementation of related policies and the creation of favorable conditions for the overall development of minors.
Some of the CPPCC National Committee members in attendance shared their insights on the topic and called for integrating mental health into every aspect of the well-rounded education, such as physical ability, aesthetic sensibility, and work skills. It is also imperative to foster a team of professionals dedicated to safeguarding mental health of minors, improve the juvenile mental health protection system, and enhance coordination between families, schools and wider society in this regard, they said.
