The Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee held a working meeting of its special committees in Beijing on Oct 11.

Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, addressed the meeting.

Wang stressed the need to thoroughly study and implement the guiding principles of the important speech that Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, delivered at the meeting marking the 75th founding anniversary of the CPPCC, combine the Party's leadership, the united front, and consultative democracy in an integrated manner, and fully utilize the CPPCC's role as a specialized consultative body to rally people's support, build consensus, and pool wisdom and strengths for advancing Chinese modernization.

He called for strengthening the work of the special committees, uniting the whole nation under shared beliefs and goals, offering suggestions on advancing Chinese modernization, expanding the convergence of interests in the drive to build a strong country and achieve rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, improving the systems and mechanisms of the CPPCC, enhancing the capacity of CPPCC members, and making plans to advance the special committees' work so that their fundamental role in the CPPCC work could be fully tapped.

Wang noted that to carry out the work of the special committees effectively, it is essential to uphold and strengthen the overall leadership of the CPC and fully understand the distinct political attributes of the CPPCC system and its organizations, ensuring that the correct political direction is firmly maintained.

He called on the special committees to carry out regular theoretical learning sessions and in-depth surveys and consultations on major CPC Central Committee decisions, national strategic needs, and key development issues to play a greater role in supporting the country's overall development. More efforts are needed to improve the systems of the special committees to make them more institutionalized and standardized, he said. It is essential to ensure that CPPCC members have profound understanding of the CPPCC, adept at political consultation and deliberation of State affairs, abide by disciplines, and value norms and moral integrity, so as to effectively perform their due functions, he added.

The meeting was presided over by Shi Taifeng, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee. Vice-chairpersons of the CPPCC National Committee, heads of the 10 special committees of the CPPCC National Committee, as well as representatives from some provincial, regional, and municipal CPPCC committees, attended the meeting.
