The 2024 Cross-Straits Leisure Agriculture Development Seminar was held in Haikou, South China's Hainan province, on Sept 25, attracting more than 200 participants from both sides of the Taiwan Strait who are involved in the leisure agriculture sector.

Su Hui, vice-chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony.

Su said that the seminar, which has been held for 15 years, has acted as a pragmatic platform for promoting exchanges and integration between Hainan and Taiwan, with a focus on the development of rural industries, deepening the emotional bond and reinforcing mutual trust between compatriots on both sides of the Strait.

Su said she hoped that people involved in the agricultural sectors on both sides of the Strait will join hands in contributing to the grand cause of Chinese modernization, fully committing themselves to strengthening the sense of community for the Chinese nation and resolutely opposing "Taiwan independence" separatist activities and external interference.

She encouraged Taiwan compatriots to seize the development opportunities by leveraging the preferential policies of Hainan province for Taiwan compatriots and Taiwan-funded enterprises in participating in the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port, and achieving new development through cross-Strait cooperation.
