A team from the Committee on Social and Legal Affairs of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee visited South China's Guangdong province for a survey themed on improving foreign-related legal service mechanisms for the high-quality development of Belt and Road cooperation in the province's Shenzhen, Zhuhai and the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, Zhuhai, from Sept 8 to 10.

During their stay in Guangdong, the team visited arbitration courts, notary offices, foreign-related public legal service centers and joint law ventures to gain insights into good practices of and challenges facing foreign-related legal services. They also held a symposium with relevant institutions, experts and legal practitioners to hear opinions and suggestions.

The team praised Guangdong's innovative efforts in the area of foreign-related legal services, acknowledging that, in recent years, Guangdong has made significant progress in building foreign-related legal service platforms, improving service mechanisms, advancing legal cooperation and aligning with international standards.

The team emphasized that promoting high-quality Belt and Road cooperation requires the rule of law both as an essential component and a critical safeguard. They stressed the importance of understanding the relationship between reform and the rule of law, and recognizing the opportunities and challenges brought about by the increasing demand for foreign-related legal services and the complex external environment.

They called for a market-oriented approach, leveraging the resources and advantages provided by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, enhancing foreign-related legal service capabilities, and strengthening institutions and talent pools in foreign-related legal services to support high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.
