The seventh Seminar on Population Development Strategy, hosted by the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party (CPWDP) and the China National Committee on Aging, took place in Zhengzhou, capital of Central China's Henan province, on Sept 5.
Yang Zhen, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and executive vice-chairman of the CPWDP Central Committee, addressed the seminar.
Yang said that the third plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) put forward key reform measures on improving the support and service systems for population development, which will undoubtedly provide strong momentum for the population cause. He stressed the importance of maintaining a reasonable fertility level and population size while refining the policy system for boosting the birth rate. Efforts should be made to promote a positive view on aging, develop the silver economy and push forward high-quality population development through multiple measures, he added.
The CPWDP has always been leveraging its expertise to focus on population issues, he noted. He said he hopes the seminar would build consensus and offer policy recommendations, contributing wisdom and strength to supporting Chinese modernization through high-quality population development.
With the theme of developing the silver economy, improving fertility policies and promoting high-quality population development, the seminar featured keynote speeches, a roundtable forum and two sub-forums.
