Shao Hong, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Jiusan Society, led a team of CPPCC National Committee members to inspect technological innovation in the field of cultural relics in Northwest China's Shaanxi province, from Aug 25 to 29.
The team visited cultural units, research institutes, and cultural relic protection sites in the cities of Xi'an, Baoji and Hancheng, where they held multiple meetings with local departments to gain an in-depth understanding of the current state of archaeological scientific research and technological innovation, the application of cultural relics protection technologies, the management and risk control of cultural relics, as well as the inheritance and utilization of cultural relics.
Noting technological innovation as the core driving force behind the high-quality development of the cultural relics sector, the team called for the thorough implementation of the central leadership's instructions on cultural relics-related work, such as bringing cultural relics to life, in a bid to achieve the historical transformation of China from a major country abundant in cultural relics resources into a leading nation in the protection and utilization of such resources.
They emphasized that efforts are needed to optimize the layout of technological innovation in cultural relics, build robust platforms for related technological innovation, expand the talent pool in this field, and improve incentive mechanisms for innovation.
These measures are essential to providing the technological support needed to protect cultural relics, preserve cultural heritage, and promote cultural prosperity, the team said. The team also pledged the CPPCC's support in building up China's cultural strength and ensuring the high-quality development of the cultural relics sector.
