Jiang Zuojun, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and chairman of the Central Committee of the China Zhi Gong Party, led an inspection on the development of the core area of the Silk Road Economic Belt in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, from Aug 26 to 30.
The inspection team, composed of non-Communist Party of China (CPC) members from the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the CPPCC National Committee, visited industrial parks, international land ports, cultural parks, and universities in Karamay, Urumqi, and Hami, where they conducted on-site inspections on local efforts to build the core area of the Silk Road Economic Belt. Additionally, they held a symposium with officials from the local government and relevant departments to learn about related work.
The team pointed out that the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) bears milestone significance in human civilization. In recent years, Xinjiang, in alignment with the BRI's overall planning and layout, has achieved significant results in promoting high-quality Belt and Road cooperation by leveraging its unique geographical position and resource advantages.
The team emphasized that the third plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee outlined the task of improving the mechanisms for high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, providing a clear direction for advancing this initiative to a higher level under new circumstances. CPPCC members should further study and implement the guiding principles of the plenum and the CPC's strategy for governing Xinjiang in the new era, and leverage the unique advantages of the CPPCC to contribute to the development of the core area of the Silk Road Economic Belt and Belt and Road cooperation, they noted.
