The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) conducted a thematic survey in Sichuan and Jiangxi provinces from Aug 20 to 23, with a focus on safeguarding key energy and mineral resource security. Yang Zhen, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and executive vice-chairman of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party Central Committee, headed the survey team.

The team went to Chengdu, Deyang and Suining in Sichuan, and Ganzhou and Yichun in Jiangxi, where they visited State-owned and private enterprises and research institutes engaged in equipment manufacturing, metal materials and rare mineral mining. A symposium was held in Nanchang, capital city of Jiangxi, to hear reports on work progress in related fields, difficulties at the current stage and suggestions for future work.

The team said that both Sichuan and Jiangxi shoulder significant responsibilities in safeguarding the country's  energy and mineral resource security, and play a unique role in the supply of vital primary products such as energy and key mineral resources. It called for further efforts to enhance energy security, facilitating the complementary development of multiple energy resources including water, electricity, solar power, hydrogen and natural gas, and enhancing the development, utilization, protection and management of lithium, copper and rare earths resources as well as capacity to ensure mineral resource security. The team also encouraged efforts to transform and upgrade the mining industry, boosting conservation and utilization of resources and better ensuring the supply of important primary products for the country.

The team said it will provide advice and suggestions on safeguarding the security of important energy and mineral resources on the basis of the survey results, to better serve the country's high-quality development and advance the Chinese modernization.
