Zhu Yongxin, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led a team from the Committee on Education, Science, Health and Sports of the CPPCC National Committee to Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region from Aug 12 to 16.
The team visited Kashgar and Hotan prefectures and the 14th Division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps in Kunyu city, where they conducted healthcare-related services featuring expert medical consultations, specialized lectures and medical capacity enhancement, as part of the CPPCC members’ duty performance program.
At the event’s launch, Zhu, also executive vice-chairman of the China Association for Promoting Democracy Central Committee, emphasized the importance of the CPPCC staying in contact with the people and providing them with services as requested by the third plenary session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC). He noted that all specialized committees of the CPPCC National Committee and its members are actively engaging in efforts to serve the people through initiatives like the health campaign.
Zhu said the Committee on Education, Science, Health and Sports of the CPPCC National Committee has long been committed to grassroots health programs, embracing a mixture of tradition and innovation. This latest initiative in southern Xinjiang aims to improve the capacity of local healthcare institutions, and advance their high-quality development, in a bid to help people from all ethnic groups in the region tangibly feel the warmth and support of the CPC, as well as CPPCC members’ dedication to working for the people, he added.
On the sidelines of the event, Peking University People's Hospital signed an agreement with Kashgar People's Hospital to establish a medical consortium in a bid to enhance local medical treatment capabilities in relevant disciplines. The China Charity Federation coordinated donations from charitable companies, delivering advanced medical equipment and essential medicines worth 14.7 million yuan ($2.06 million) to 24 grassroots healthcare institutions. The CPPCC team also organized four expert medical consultations that benefited over 360 patients, and held two specialized lectures on hospital management and the latest developments in medical disciplines, with over 200 healthcare workers participating. Additionally, a lecture on myopia prevention and correction was delivered to more than 400 high school students in Yecheng county, Kashgar.
