In line with the requirements set forth in the Resolution of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on Further Deepening Reform Comprehensively to Advance Chinese Modernization, the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) recently arranged for members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) from the CAST sector to conduct a thematic survey on establishing international science and technology organizations in Southwest China's Sichuan province and Northwest China's Shaanxi province.

The team visited research institutes, a high-tech zone and universities in Chengdu of Sichuan and Xi'an of Shaanxi to learn about their current international collaboration in science and technology. They also held discussions with relevant government departments, industrial associations and universities on how international science and technology organizations can better connect domestic universities and research institutes with the international arena.

Noting that international science and technology organizations are critical platforms for advancing international scientific cooperation and facilitating China's efforts to mobilize global innovation resources, the team stressed that establishing such organizations in China is pivotal to showcasing the country's sense of responsibility in global opening-up and cooperation, offering Chinese solutions in the reform of global governance systems, promoting scientific progress and addressing the common challenges facing humanity.

The team urged science and technology professionals to broaden the government and non-governmental channels for exchanges and cooperation, give full play to the role of platforms such as the Belt and Road Initiative, and actively integrate into global innovation networks.

They also called for a unique approach in establishing and running international science and technology organizations in China, and for joint work with other countries to build an open, fair, just and non-discriminatory environment for global science and technology development. The efforts are to collectively address global challenges, including climate change, food security and energy security, and to bring more benefits of science and technology to all of humanity, according to the team.
