Bater, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led a team to Southwest China's Sichuan province from July 8 to 11 to survey work on developing Tibetan Buddhism in the Chinese context.

The team visited religious schools and venues, and residential communities in Chengdu and Ganzi Tibetan autonomous prefecture to learn about local efforts to implement the decisions and plans of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee on religious work.

The team noted that Sichuan has improved its systems and mechanisms for religious work and ensured the standardized and orderly management of religious affairs. Local religious community of Tibetan Buddhism has enhanced their legal awareness and recognition of the motherland, the Chinese nation, Chinese culture, the CPC and socialism with Chinese characteristics, they added.

The team stressed the importance of upholding the principle that religions in China must be Chinese in orientation. They also highlighted the need to leverage the role of the CPPCC as a specialized consultative body to guide the Tibetan Buddhist community to support the leadership of the CPC and the socialist system, safeguard national unity and security, promote religious harmony, social stability and ethnic unity, and play a positive role in the process of Chinese modernization.
