Shen Yueyue, vice-chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led a team of personages without party affiliation of the CPPCC National Committee to inspect the coordinated development and modernization of national parks on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau in Northwest China's Qinghai province from July 1 to 5. 

The inspection team visited various locations in Xining city, as well as Yushu and Hainan Tibetan autonomous prefectures. The visit took in areas of the Sanjiangyuan National Park, known as China's "water tower", where they inspected biodiversity protection monitoring and community co-management. The team also visited research institutes to learn about progress in national park construction, environmental protection and restoration, and the living and working conditions of herders. Additionally, they held discussions with officials from relevant departments of Qinghai province, national park management personnel, environmental protectors and residents from ethnic minority groups to listen to their opinions and suggestions. 

Noting that the establishment of national parks and the national park system is a significant initiative in promoting environmental protection and harmonious coexistence between man and nature, the team acknowledged Qinghai's efforts in advancing the construction of national parks on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau by innovating operational mechanisms and strengthening supervision and management. 

The team added that all efforts should be grounded in the actual environmental protection needs of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau. They also noted that, while using the construction of the Sanjiangyuan National Park as a catalyst for the coordinated development of national parks on the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, it is crucial to explore a path for national park development with Chinese characteristics. 

The CPPCC should maximize its strengths in protecting the Sanjiangyuan area, safeguard biodiversity, conduct thorough research and provide sound recommendations to effectively promote ecological protection and high-quality development of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, making it China’s standout nature reserve with global influence, the team added.
