A team of non-Communist Party of China members from the Committee on Population, Resources and Environment of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee went to East China's Shandong province from July 1 to 5 to inspect work on the governance of coastal waters and beautiful bay construction. Wang Guangqian, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the China Democratic League, led the team.

The inspection team visited various locations in the cities of Qingdao, Yantai and Weihai, including coastal wetlands, river mouths, beach resorts, marine research institutes, sewage treatment plants, marine ranches and marine equipment manufacturing enterprises. While there, they talked with scientific researchers, residents, grassroots officials and business leaders to gain a detailed understanding of marine research, bay environmental protection and restoration, river management, coastline beach construction for the public, and modern marine fishery development. A symposium was also held in Weihai.

The team said Shandong has accumulated many valuable experiences for advancing the comprehensive governance of coastal waters and beautiful bay construction, which are worth promoting.

The team called for more efforts to improve the quality of coastal waters, especially through the joint prevention, control and treatment of green tides, and build a comprehensive management system that integrates coastal areas, watershed and sea areas from a holistic governance perspective. Premium ecological products should be provided to the people that meet their need to be close to the sea, the team said, adding that more needs to be done to enhance marine ecological environment governance capabilities, including refined and intelligent monitoring and supervision capabilities, through technological innovation.
