A team of non-Communist Party of China members from the Committee on Social and Legal Affairs of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) conducted an inspection of legal protection for cultural heritage and relics in North China's Shanxi province from June 24 to 28.
The team went to the cities of Datong, Jinzhong and Taiyuan, where they visited cultural heritage sites, museums, research institutes and universities and exchanged views with cultural preservation workers, experts and scholars, intangible cultural heritage inheritors, and enterprise representatives.
The team acknowledged the efforts made by Shanxi, a province rich in cultural heritage and relics, in protecting, inheriting, utilizing and researching these resources. They highlighted the province's law-based approach to the work, using the rule of law as a guide to promote high-quality development of cultural relics-related work in the new era.
Protecting cultural heritage and relics is of utmost importance for the inheritance of traditional Chinese culture, said the team. Legal protection is crucial to ensuring that these treasures are preserved, restored, utilized and revitalized, they added.
The team called for a deeper understanding of the importance of legal protection. They also noted that greater efforts are needed to build a systematic framework, accelerate the formulation and amendment of relevant laws, strengthen law enforcement, and intensify publicity and education in this regard.
They also made recommendations on enhancing talent training and promoting international exchanges and cooperation in this field.
The inspection was in preparation for a Standing Committee meeting of the CPPCC National Committee on boosting cultural confidence and self-improvement, to be held later this year.
