Shen Yueyue, vice-chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led a team to survey the work on the new type of urbanization in Southwest China's Yunnan province from June 11 to 14. 

The team visited sub-districts, communities, villages, and towns in Kunming and Honghe Hani and Yi autonomous prefecture to gain a detailed understanding of the lives of people who have moved from rural areas to cities, the community services, and work on the Beautiful Villages project. They also conducted field surveys and held meetings in border villages to learn about population security and urban-rural coordinated development in those areas.

The team said efforts should be made to systematically analyze various factors contributing to urbanization and focus on figuring out the appropriate urbanization rate and urban population proportion suitable for China's national conditions. They highlighted the importance of leveraging the CPPCC's advantages in offering suggestions, resolving doubts, building consensus, and strengthening confidence. 

The team stressed the importance of upholding a people-centered approach in advancing a new type of urbanization with Chinese characteristics in the new era. It should be promoted with a comprehensive perspective on advancing Chinese modernization while taking into account China's national conditions and realities, they noted. This effort should be closely integrated with high-quality development and high-level security, aligned with local economic development, industrial support, and employment capacity, and coordinated with comprehensive rural vitalization, focusing more on the improvement of the quality of urbanization, the team said.

During the survey, Shen conducted study visits and research at relevant units where CPPCC National Committee members are based and held discussions with CPPCC members from Yunnan.
