Wang Guangqian, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), led a team from the Committee on Population, Resources, and Environment of the CPPCC National Committee to survey the post-disaster reconstruction of the Beijing section of the Yongding River on June 14. The team also held a symposium to supervise the handling of a key proposal on promoting the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yongding River Basin. 

The team visited the Chenjiazhuang Reservoir Dam Site and the Sanjiadian Water Diversion Hub in Beijing's Mentougou district, where they gained a detailed understanding of the post-disaster reconstruction, flood control management, ecological restoration, and comprehensive management of the Yongding River Basin. 

At the symposium, officials from the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Natural Resources, and the Ministry of Water Resources introduced the progress in handling the proposal, and exchanged views with CPPCC National Committee members and relevant experts. 

The team acknowledged the work done by the aforementioned departments in handling the proposal. Noting that the Yongding River is an important water system in the Haihe River Basin and an essential water conservation area, ecological barrier, and ecological corridor in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the team stressed that promoting the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yongding River Basin is of great importance. 

In recent years, Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei have actively implemented the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei coordinated development strategy, achieving remarkable results in protecting the basin's ecological environment and promoting high-quality development, the team said. 

As an essential part of the national governance system and a specialized consultative body, the CPPCC will continue to pay attention to and participate in this work through organizing consultative meetings, conducting surveys, and collecting public opinions, to contribute its own strength to the building of a safe and beautiful Yongding River, the team added.
