The Committee on Social and Legal Affairs of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee conducted a survey and held a consultative meeting at Beijing Guangqumen Middle School on June 13, themed on precautions against internet addiction among teenagers, one of the major proposals submitted to the CPPCC National Committee during its annual session in March. He Baoxiang, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, attended the event and delivered remarks.

The CPPCC members visited the school's makerspace, laboratory and psychological consultation room, and learned more about the school's psychological counseling, online legal literacy education for minors, and training on specialized courses via video link with the school's cooperation partners - the Beijing Internet Court and Beijing Normal University.

At the meeting, He highlighted the importance of preventing minors from becoming addicted to the internet.

He stressed the need to cultivate positive internet habits among youngsters, and enhance their internet literacy through correct guidance. Families, schools, and society should fulfill their respective responsibilities in a coordinated manner, to ensure the effective implementation of anti-addiction measures, He said. He called on CPPCC members to continuously strengthen in-depth research on new situations and characteristics of internet use among minors, and summarize relevant practice to form feasible experiences for more extensive application. CPPCC members should leverage their professional advantages, propose targeted suggestions based on in-depth studies, build consensus, and jointly promote the effective handling of the proposal, He added.

Officials from the departments handling the proposal - the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, the Ministry of Education, and the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China - introduced their latest work on the prevention of internet addiction among juniors and the handling of related proposals. The meeting focused on how to further improve the quality of online content and strengthen legal supervision.
