The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held its 16th briefing session on issues of major concern in Beijing on June 12, focusing on the implementation and practical results of the strategy of reinvigorating China through talent development in the new era. Chen Wu and Zhu Yongxin, vice-chairmen of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the meeting. 

Peng Jinhui, deputy head of the Organization Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), gave a briefing on related work. He said that that since the 18th CPC National Congress, the CPC Central Committee has attached great importance to and thoroughly implemented the talent development strategy, and has achieved historic achievements. Efforts have been made to thoroughly implement the top-level design, advance the fostering and introduction of high-level talents, promote the reasonable regional arrangement and coordinated development of talent, deepen the institutional reform of talent development, and adhere to the all-round leadership of the Party, in a bid to elevate the strategy into a new stage of comprehensive implementation and substantial momentum, according to Peng.

Chen Jiachang, deputy minister of science and technology, told the meeting that the Ministry of Science and Technology has coordinated the promotion of major national scientific and technological tasks and the cultivation, recruitment and utilization of high-level sci-tech talents. The ministry is accelerating the reform and innovation of sci-tech talent work to stimulate the innovation and creativity of professionals in this field, so as to provide strong talent support for the nation to achieve advanced sci-tech self-reliance and self-improvement, he added. 

CPPCC members also exchanged views with officials of relevant departments on pushing ahead with talent-related work through scientific methods, advancing the construction of talent highlands and platforms, deepening the reform of sci-tech talent evaluation, supporting the cultivation of talents for basic research, strengthening the development of young sci-tech talents, and reinforcing the oversight of talent policy implementation.
