Wang Guangqian, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the China Democratic League (CDL), led a team from the Committee on Population, Resources and Environment of the CPPCC National Committee to survey the development of the ecological and environmental protection industry in East China's Fujian province from May 13 to 17.

The team visited industrial parks, enterprises, universities, research institutes, and environmental treatment sites in the cities of Fuzhou, Putian, Quanzhou, and Xiamen, where they learned through onsite visits and meetings about local practices and explorations in promoting ecological and environmental governance and environmental protection industry development.

The team acknowledged Fujian's fruitful results in promoting ecological progress and developing the environmental protection industry, and called for further efforts to align actions with thoughts to advance the construction of a Beautiful China.

The team noted that the environmental protection industry, as a strategic emerging industry and a key component of new quality productive forces, faces new development opportunities and the need for iterative upgrades. They called for a shift from end-of-pipe treatment to comprehensive, high-quality development across the entire process and chain under the guidance of planning and standards. In addition, enhancing technological innovation ability, accelerating the upgrading of environmental protection equipment, reinforcing the dominant position of enterprises in technological innovation and encouraging differentiated development were also highlighted.

CPPCC members should fully tap their roles and improve the quality of consultations and deliberations of State affairs, in order to contribute to the harmonious coexistence between man and nature, the team added.

During the survey, Wang also visited relevant units where CPPCC National Committee members work and met and exchanged views with members of the CDL and from the environment and resources sector in Fujian.
