Hao Mingjin, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and chairman of the Central Committee of the China National Democratic Construction Association (CNDCA), led a team to Central China's Hunan province from May 7 to 10 to conduct a supervision survey on the protection of the ecological environment of the Yangtze River. 

The team visited a waterworks in Zhangjiajie city, a mine treatment site, a high-tech enterprise and a waste treatment station in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao autonomous prefecture, and Qingjiang Lake in Huaihua city, where they gained a detailed understanding of the eco-environmental protection of the Lishui and Yuanjiang rivers, mine ecological restoration, and the development of ecological tourism along the Yangtze River. 

They also held discussions and exchanges with officials from the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the provincial government, and relevant provincial departments in Changsha. 

Hao noted that in recent years, Hunan has made all-out efforts to promote the rectification of prominent eco-environmental problems in the region, advance ecological protection and restoration, accelerate the green transformation of the development model, and has achieved phased results in promoting the protection of the Yangtze River. 

He highlighted the need to grasp the crucial phase of transformation from quantitative to qualitative change in the eco-environmental protection of the Yangtze River Basin, follow the strategic plan of the CPC Central Committee on promoting the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and promote greater effectiveness in the democratic supervision of the eco-environmental protection of the region. 

He added that the CNDCA should deepen its understanding of the major principles and policies of the Party and the country through democratic supervision, and strive to be a good adviser, assistant, and colleague of the CPC.
