On May 9, Su Hui, vice-chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League (TDSL), met with a public representatives exchange and visiting delegation from Taiwan led by Chang Pen-tsao in Beijing.
Su expressed her hope that the delegation members would take the lead in adhering to the 1992 Consensus, firmly opposing various forms of "Taiwan independence" and steadfastly safeguarding the common homeland of the Chinese nation.
Su said that the mainland is making great strides in building a great modern socialist country and advancing national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization, which has provided unprecedented opportunities for Taiwan compatriots to root themselves in the mainland and make their own achievements.
She said she hopes that the delegation would play an active role in supporting and encouraging more Taiwan compatriots to seek development on the mainland, committing to cross-Strait integrated development, sharing the development opportunities brought by Chinese modernization, and contributing to the reunification of the two sides of the Strait and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
Su added that the expansion of cross-Strait exchanges is bonded by kinship and a common aspiration of the people. She called for the delegation members to promote cross-Strait exchanges and carry forward Chinese culture, enhance mutual understanding and trust through the exchanges, cultivate a rich soil of affinity and compatibility, and forge a strong sense of community for the Chinese nation.
Chang said that promoting cross-Strait people-to-people exchanges and economic and trade cooperation and encouraging more Taiwan compatriots to visit the mainland are valuable endeavors, adding that he hopes to fully tap the role of the public opinion representatives under the institutionalized exchange platform, further expand exchanges, promote cultural identity, and solidify the foundation for the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations.
The Committee on Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese of the CPPCC National Committee has carried out institutionalized exchanges with the Cross-Strait Public Opinion Exchange Foundation for many years. The two sides have conducted 17 group visits, and this is the 10th visit of the Taiwan group to the mainland.
