On April 19, the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League (TDSL) Central Committee held a symposium on stepping up democratic supervision over the ecological and environmental protection along the Yangtze River in 2024 in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality.

The symposium was part of the TDSL Central Committee's pairing assistance work in the municipality. Su Hui, chairwoman of the TDSL Central Committee, delivered a speech at the symposium.

Su, also vice-chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said this year marks the fourth year of the five-year supervision campaign on environmental protection along the Yangtze River and is a critical phase for consolidating the achievements made over the past years.

The TDSL will deeply implement the important decisions and plans of the Communist Party of China Central Committee on the Yangtze River protection as well as on special democratic supervision campaign, further enhance political stance, clarify thinking about the work, and take supervision quality and work effectiveness as a core task, Su noted.

She urged fully tapping into the TDSL Central Committee's coordination mechanism and the two-way liaison mechanism between the TDSL and Chongqing, and giving full play to the role of the liaison officials and think tank experts in the supervision work.

She called for effective participation of organizations at all levels and orderly implementation of supervision activities, aiming for practical results and outcome transformation in order to further enhance capacity in case analysis and problem solving.

Su also urged the TDSL to improve its services in supervision work to facilitate the green and low-carbon development of Chongqing and to contribute more to the construction of a Beautiful China by better fulfilling its duties.
