Shen Yueyue, vice-chairwoman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, led a team to East China's Zhejiang province to survey the efforts made to promote new-type urbanization, from April 18 to 20.

The survey team visited villages, towns, communities, industrial parks and urban planning museums in the cities of Hangzhou, Jinhua, Lishui, and Wenzhou, where they learned about local efforts in promoting new-type urbanization. Multiple symposiums were held during their survey trip to gain a comprehensive understanding of Zhejiang's practices and explorations in this regard.

The team held that since the 18th  National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 2012, China has developed a Chinese path for new-type urbanization, which features people-centered approach, the synchronized development of new industrialization, informatization, urbanization, and agricultural modernization, layout optimization, ecological civilization, and cultural continuity.

The team called for thoroughly studying the central leadership's key statements and the CPC Central Committee’s decisions and plans on promoting new-type urbanization and understanding their core principles and practical requirements. The process of surveying should be used as an approach to enhance learning, deepen understanding and build consensus, they added.

As urbanization is a historic task in China's modernization, the new-type of urbanization in the new era should adhere to the innovative theoretical guidance of the Party and focus on the people, according to the team. It should be aligned with Chinese modernization and the country's high-quality growth.

They also stressed the importance of enhancing development quality and improving public services to meet the people's needs for a quality life.

Scientific analysis and predictions should be made based on national conditions, and indicators for development should be set to explore tailored growth patterns, they noted.

Reasonable planning and systematic implementation were also underscored in promoting the efficient conservation and utilization of resources and environmental protection.

They called on CPPCC members to pool wisdom and strength for new-type urbanization by offering suggestions on key issues such as the urbanization rate and proportion of urban population after in-depth study and research.
