A team comprised of non-Communist Party of China (CPC) members from the Committee on Ethnic and Religious Affairs of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee conducted a special inspection on education and talent cultivation in religious schools in East China's Jiangsu province from April 8 to 12.
The inspection team visited religious schools and activity venues in Suzhou, Zhenjiang, Yangzhou, and Nanjing in Jiangsu, exchanging views with officials in charge of local united front work and ethnic and religious affairs, as well as teacher and student representatives from religious schools, and holding symposiums to gain an on-site understanding and solicit opinions on related work in the province.
The team acknowledged Jiangsu’s efforts in implementing the central leadership’s instructions on religious work and the guiding principles of the national conference on religious work, strengthening the standardized construction of religious schools and continuously reinforcing their intensive development since the 18th CPC National Congress.
The team members called on local religious institutions to uphold core socialist values and follow the right path of running religious schools with Chinese characteristics. Efforts are needed to balance the relations between the role of religious circles and the Party’s leadership, between traditional religious education and modern education, and between the cultivation and utilization of religious talents. It is necessary to further enhance the standardization and teaching quality of religious schools, and improve the capacity of religious talent cultivation, so as to better adapt them to the new era of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
