The Committee on Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee conducted surveys in Wenzhou, Zhoushan and Ningbo, in East China's Zhejiang province, from March 31 to April 3, and in Hong Kong and Macao from April 8 to 12, concentrating on leveraging the roles of Hong Kong and Macao in establishing new systems for the country's higher-level open economy.
Led by Liu Cigui, chairman of the liaison committee, the team visited local enterprises, universities, research institutions, financial agencies and cultural bases, and exchanged ideas with CPPCC members from HK and Macao, as well as officials from the governments of the two special administrative regions, relevant local authorities, institutions and enterprises.
The survey team highlighted the significance of deeply studying and implementing the central leadership's instructions on establishing new systems for a higher-level open economy as well as on Hong Kong and Macao affairs, saying that it should be well understood that Hong Kong and Macao still play an irreplaceable role in the process of the nation's reform and opening-up in the new era on account of their special positions and unique advantages.
The team called for deepened cooperation between Hong Kong, Macao and the mainland, accelerating the construction of Hong Kong's "eight centers" — the eight key areas set out by the nation for the region in its 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), as well as relevant platforms and bases in Macao. It urged for actively promoting the open flow of goods and factors and institutional openness, better leveraging the unique roles of Hong Kong and Macao in establishing the new systems, and making new and greater contributions to advancing the overall construction of a powerful country and the great cause of national rejuvenation on the Chinese path to modernization.
