Wang Huning, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), recently presided over a symposium of the CPPCC National Committee's special committees to exchange views on improving their work and better leveraging their fundamental role.

Wang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, pointed out at the meeting that the special committees should bear in mind their political responsibilities, strengthen ideological and political guidance and build broad consensus to constantly consolidate the common ideological and political foundation for unity and hard work.

At the symposium the CPPCC’ role as a special consultative body to make contributions to meeting the target of promoting Chinese modernization with high-quality development was highlighted.

The need to conduct in-depth investigations and research with focus on major issues and key links, and to put forward suggestions and recommendations for resolving the problems was also underlined at the symposium.

It was also suggested that the special committees combine the study of theories and professional knowledge with the improvement of research capabilities in a bid to improve their capability to fulfill duties, offer higher-level advice and suggestions and enhance the quality of political consultations.

It was noted that the special committees should carry out activities of "serving the people" at the grassroots level, and CPPCC members should listen to the voices of the public within their respective sectors, actively collect public opinion and information about the concerns of the people, and help them solve problems that matter to their immediate concerns.

The symposium also stressed the importance of strengthening the development of the special committees to make the CPPCC a home for its members, further enhance CPPCC members' sense of mission, responsibility and honor, and better encourage them to fulfill their duties.
