The Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party (CPWDP) held a symposium on key research and surveys in 2024 in Beijing on March 29, themed on promoting high-quality development of the biomanufacturing sector and cultivating new quality productive forces. 

In his speech at the meeting, He Wei, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and chairman of the CPWDP Central Committee, said that biomanufacturing, one of the key areas of new quality productive forces and strategic emerging industries, is becoming a core component of China's advanced manufacturing industry and a crucial industrial section of the country's new development paradigm. 

He urged action to strengthen the biomimetic design for industrial manufacturing as a whole, boost the development of bioprocessing engineering, enhance energy conversion and upgrading of biomass material products, and promote overall reform and systematic reshaping of related industries in China through technological innovation. 

It was underscored that adapting measures to local conditions and facilitating the healthy development of biomanufacturing in an orderly manner are of great significance. The efforts should focus on boosting the transformation and upgrading of the traditional biological industry, reinforcing original and revolutionary scientific and technological innovation, and aligning with international advanced standards to ensure green and sustainable development of the biological sector. 

He also called for further improvement of institutional mechanisms to create a favorable policy environment for the healthy development of biomanufacturing, acceleration of the transformation of sci-tech achievements, and promotion of the rational layout of the biomanufacturing industry and the rapid transformation of biotechnology innovation achievements into real productive forces. 

Yang Zhen, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and executive vice-chairman of the CPWDP Central Committee, attended the symposium.
