Symposium held to advocate for adolescents' mental health

On April 2, the Committee on Education, Science, Health and Sports of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) organized a special symposium focused on caring for the mental health of adolescents and safeguarding their growth. 

Zhu Yongxin, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. 

It was emphasized at the meeting that the mental health of adolescents is an important aspect of building a strong country in education and a Healthy China. It is also a major issue of concern for the Communist Party of China Central Committee, the people and the society at large. 

Participants of the meeting called for efforts to achieve tangible results in promoting the mental health of students and to address the mental health of adolescents with scientific approaches and methods.   

While underscoring the importance of adhering to the educational philosophy of "putting health first", they urged establishing a sound monitoring system and intervention mechanism to create a healthy environment for students' growth. 

It was noted at the meeting that efforts should be made to intensify scientific research, enhance popularizing related public knowledge and promote the development of psychological disciplines and cultivate more professionals. 

The role of the CPPCC as a specialized consultative body should be leveraged to promote the work of adolescents' mental health, according to the meeting.

Officials from the Ministry of Education, the National Health Commission, and the All-China Women's Federation presented the current situation of adolescents' mental health work at the meeting. 

CPPCC members Ma Huaide, Feng Li, Shen Beili, Zheng Fuzhi, Jiang Yi, and some experts and scholars participated in discussions.
