Zhu Yongxin, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and executive vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD), led a team to survey development of artificial intelligence (AI) in East China's Anhui province from March 26 to 29.

With a focus on deepening the application of AI in multiple scenarios to enhance the high-quality development of modern industries, the survey team visited companies such as iFlytek, a company focusing on intelligent speech and technology; Leinao, a brain-like intelligence technology firm; Zepp Health, a smart wearable and health technology company; and Easpeed Technology, a high-tech company working on aerial imaging technology research and development, to learn about AI development in the province.

The survey team pointed out that guided by the policies of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the AI industry has been expanding continuously in the country with technological innovation improved and infrastructure construction advancing rapidly.

Faced with new situations and demands, the team members said, it is crucial to seize the historical opportunities for AI development. The team members underscored the need to strengthen leadership and improve planning of the sector, prioritize fundamental theories and conduct interdisciplinary research.

Efforts should be made to cultivate high-end and efficient intelligent economy, build a safe and convenient intelligent society, and enhance talent reserves to enable China to be a stronghold for talents in the AI sector, they added.

The team members said that it is important to place greater emphasis on promoting industrial innovation with scientific and technological innovation, and to bolster the healthy development of China's new generation of AI technology and thus to contribute to the construction of a world-leading scientific and technological powerhouse.
