As Chinese mainland TV series become popular in Taiwan, the fundamental reason lies in the shared cultural roots cross-Strait, said Jin Dong, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and national first-class actor, on Thursday.

He mentioned that the people of Taiwan place great importance on the preservation and inheritance of traditional Chinese culture, particularly in the research and protection of traditional Chinese characters and ancient texts.

"The cultures on both sides are interconnected," he said.

TV series such as Nirvana in Fire and The Disguiser, in which Jin starred, have received high acclaim in Taiwan. Nirvana in Fire was once selected as one of the top 5 most popular TV dramas in Taiwan.

During the Spring Festival period this year, the mainland TV drama Empresses in the Palace was continuously broadcast for 24 hours on TV in Taiwan for the third consecutive year, earning the title "Taiwan's New Year Gala".

Jin expressed that he now has more exchanges with counterparts in Taiwan and hopes to make more efforts in the future to create works related to cross-Strait themes, not only in TV series or movies but also in stage plays. He expressed a strong desire to perform in Taiwan through drama festivals and art festivals, as well as to invite counterparts from Taiwan to cooperate in the Chinese mainland.
