BEIJING -- Wang Huning, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met with a delegation led by Mizuho Fukushima, head of the Social Democratic Party of Japan, in Beijing on Friday.

Wang, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in November last year. The two leaders reiterated their commitment to the principles and consensus stipulated in the four political documents between the two countries, and reaffirmed the positioning of comprehensively advancing the strategic and mutually beneficial relations between China and Japan.

It is hoped that the two sides will view each other's development in an objective and rational manner in the spirit of taking history as a mirror and opening up the future, respect each other's core interests and major concerns, and promote the building of a China-Japan relationship that meets the requirements of the new era. The CPPCC National Committee is willing to strengthen contact with Japan and make positive contributions to this end, Wang said.

Mizuho Fukushima said that the main purpose of the Social Democratic Party's visit is to reaffirm peace and friendship between Japan and China. She said Japan had launched the war of aggression against China and caused great harm to China, for which we sincerely apologize.

The Social Democratic Party is willing to promote the healthy development of Japan-China relations based on the four political documents between the two countries, she said.
