The 2023 conference on the development of China's non-government education was held in Beijing on Dec 9. 

In a speech delivered at the meeting, Zhu Yongxin, vice-chairman of National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said that education is the top priority of the Communist Party of China and the country, noting that the sector has undergone structural changes in the new era. 

He called on the sponsors of private schools to further refine their ideas on school operation, fully implement the Party's education policies, and fulfill the fundamental tasks of building morality and cultivating young talents. He also urged non-government education providers to constantly optimize their orientation of running schools, strengthen their teaching characteristics and improve their quality of education. 

Zhu, also executive vice-chairman of the China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD) Central Committee, said that the CAPD will continue to support the development of private education in China. He expressed the hope that governments at all levels and individuals across the whole of society will further recognize the important role of private education in China's education system in the new era, and will implement the Private Education Promotion Law and the regulations on the law's implementation to protect the legitimate rights and interests of private schools.
