The 2023 Global Mayors' Forum was held in Guangzhou, South China's Guangdong province, on Dec 8.
In a speech at the opening ceremony, Bater, vice-chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee, said that against the backdrop of the world undergoing major changes unseen in a century, China proposed the concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative, which have received widespread support and praises from the international community.
Bater noted that the forum reflects the common aspiration of cities around the world, and that mayors should take the meeting as an opportunity to enhance urban innovation and cooperation, promote high-quality global development, and jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind.
The forum was jointly hosted by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, the Guangzhou municipal government, the United Cities and Local Governments World Organization, and the World Association of the Major Metropolises. Representatives from 65 cities across 37 countries and nine international organizations attended the forum.
