The China Association for Promoting Democracy (CAPD) Central Committee held a leading group meeting on the supervision of the Yangtze River's ecological environment protection in Beijing on Dec 5.

Cai Dafeng, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and head of the supervision team, highlighted the CAPD's hard-earned achievements in the democratic supervision of the Yangtze River's ecological protection this year. He underlined the importance to have a nuanced understanding that the Yangtze River Basin is undergoing a critical period from quantitative changes to qualitative transformation in promoting the basin's ecological environment protection and high-quality development.

Cai, also chairman of the CAPD Central Committee, called on CAPD members to coordinate the association's five-year and annual plans, and to navigate between problem discovery and resolution, and practices and experience learning. He said the CAPD will continue to focus on promoting the high-quality development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and facilitating pilot water ecology assessment work in the Yangtze River Basin.

He said that, on the one hand, the CAPD will strengthen supervision on such issues as water conservation and restoration, and the prevention and control of plastic pollution. On the other, the CAPD will strengthen communication and consultation with relevant departments in Jiangxi province, striving to meet the requirements of the Communist Party of China Central Committee to help build a "Jiangxi model" for Beautiful China.
