Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the meeting.

Wang said that since the 18th CPC National Congress, the CPC has adopted the new development philosophy featuring innovative, coordinated, green, open and shared development; prioritized green and low-carbon development, highlighting the development of new and clean energy; and achieved remarkable progress in building a new energy system and promoting the leapfrog development of the new energy industry.

He urged for in-depth consultations on supporting and guiding the healthy and orderly development of the new energy industry and the recycling of its renewable resources, as well as more targeted research and analysis, and an improvement in the credibility of suggestions.

Democratic supervision should focus on the implementation of policies on the recycling and utilization of renewable resources in the new energy industry, and all CPPCC members should proactively perform their duties to increase the whole of society's awareness of resource conservation, Wang noted.

Attending CPPCC members agreed on the need to establish and improve related policies and regulations and reinforce the supervisory role of the government, to accelerate the establishment of national and industrial standard systems that cover all major links, and to proactively participate in the formulation of international protocols and standards, in order to enhance the international competitiveness and discourse power of China’s new energy industry. They also agreed to improve the recycling network, and to establish a coordinated supervision mechanism for the entire life-circle and green development of the new energy industry.
