The Committee on Agriculture and Rural Areas of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee held the 2023 consultation symposium on aligning work on sannong (agriculture, rural areas and farmers) on Nov 9, aiming to forge a broad consensus on accelerating the development of a strong agricultural sector.
CPPCC National Committee vice-chairpersons Hu Chunhua and Qin Boyong attended the meeting.
According to the meeting, the country's agricultural sector and rural areas have maintained a sound growth momentum since the beginning of the year, with the total annual grain output expected to reach a new historical high despite severe natural disasters. The achievements of poverty alleviation have been further consolidated, with people's livelihoods in rural areas seeing new improvements and rural areas maintaining social harmony. The progress has played a vital role in stabilizing the overall situation of China's economic and social development.
Attending CPPCC members, experts and officials from relevant departments, including the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, exchanged views on advancing green farming and circular agriculture, strengthening platforms for biological breeding to increase grain production capacity, as well as upgrading policies to support the construction of high-quality farmland, ensuring water supply security, and accelerating the multidimensional cultivation of new types of agricultural workers in the new era.
