Cuban president meets with Shi Taifeng

On Nov 6, Miguel Díaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and Cuban president, met in Havana with Shi Taifeng, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and  vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), who was on an official visit to the country. 

Noting that China and Cuba are good friends, comrades and brothers, Shi said that China is ready to continue to deepen political mutual trust and expand practical cooperation with Cuba, while supporting each other on issues concerning respective core interests and working hand in hand on the path of building socialism with their own characteristics, to promote the steady and sustained development of China-Cuba relations in the new era. 

Furthermore, Shi expressed the CPPCC's willingness to work with Cuba to jointly implement the key consensus reached by the leadership of the two countries and parties, and contribute to the joint building of a China-Cuba community with a shared future.

He introduced the outcomes of the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, and pledged to take the opportunity of the joint building of the Belt and Road with higher quality to push for better development of the China-Cuba and China-Latin America relations in the new era.

Díaz-Canel expressed his appreciation to China for its firm support for Cuba’s socialist development and struggle to safeguard sovereignty and oppose interference. He said that Cuba is ready to improve practical cooperation in various fields with China, strengthen exchanges and mutual learning on state governance, and make unremitting efforts to promote the special friendship between the two countries. 

Upon invitation from the PCC Central Committee, Shi led a CPPCC delegation to visit Cuba from Nov 5-7. During this visit, Shi met respectively with Roberto Tomás Morales Ojeda, a Political Bureau member and secretary of organization of the PCC Central Committee, as well as Ana Mari Machado, vice-president of the National Assembly of the Popular Power (Parliament) of Cuba. The delegation also visited the Fidel Castro Ruz Center and the Mariel Special Development Zone.
