The sixth Seminar on the Population Development Strategy was held in Qingdao, East China's Shandong province, on Nov 3. Jointly hosted by the Central Committee of the Chinese Peasants and Workers Democratic Party (CPWDP), the China National Committee on Ageing, and the Shandong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the meeting gathered experts and representatives of relevant authorities to discuss approaches on how to support the Chinese path to modernization with high-quality population development.

Yang Zhen, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, said that the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China attaches great importance to population development and has made "modernization based on a huge population" a salient one among the five characteristics of the Chinese modernization. He noted that the central government's statement on supporting the Chinese modernization with high-quality population development has provided fundamental guidance for enhancing population related undertakings in the new era.

Yang, also executive vice-chairman of the CPWDP Central Committee, said that through organizing the seminar, the CPWDP aims to fully leverage its advantages in expertise and resources in the fields of medicine, healthcare, population, and ecological environment, to build a platform for consolidating consensus among CPWDP members and experts, and to collect their suggestions and wisdom to help advance the Chinese modernization with high-quality population development.

Yang urged for in-depth reform in the education and healthcare sectors, highlighting the construction of an education power as a strategic project for high-quality population development. He called for improvements to the supportive policy system to facilitate the development of a childbearing-friendly society and promote balanced long-term population growth, as well as the better development and utilization of human resources, so as to accelerate the transformation from population dividend to talent dividend.

He also stressed efforts to establish a basic elderly care service system, strengthen the "silver economy", and boost the coordinated development of population, industry, and resources, among the CPWDP's steps to implement the national strategies addressing the population aging issue.
