The Hubei Provincial Committee of the China Democratic League (CDL) and the Yichang municipal government jointly hosted the Three Gorges Forum on Yangtze River Protection recently in Yichang, Central China's Hubei province.
Wang Guangqian, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and executive vice-chairman of the CDL Central Committee, said at the forum that the CDL Central Committee has effectively carried out special democratic supervision of the ecological environment protection of the upstream Yangtze River in Yunnan province, in line with the plans of the central government. Local CDL organizations of 11 provincial-level regions along the river have also jointly made contributions to the high-quality development of the Yangtze River basin.
Wang called for further efforts to strengthen the protection and restoration of the Yangtze River's ecological environment, and to accelerate the green transformation in industrial production, the construction of projects, and lifestyles in the basin.
Wang said that the CDL regards contributing to the protection of the Yangtze River as not only a glorious mission entrusted by the CPC Central Committee, but also an obligation. He encouraged CDL members to conduct in-depth research, master first-hand information and put forward highly targeted and operational suggestions for the building of a beautiful Yangtze River and a beautiful China.
