CPPCC members discuss teaching, research system in primary, middle schools

BEIJING -- Members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) convened a bi-weekly seminar Friday to discuss the teaching and research system in the country's primary and middle schools.

The seminar was presided over by Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee.

Wang told the CPPCC members, whose duties include offering advice and suggestions to the country's policy making, to focus on promoting the high-quality development of education and building a strong educational system, and make concrete efforts to rally people's support and strength in this regard.

He called for improving the quality of the system, deepening reforms with work in this field, and promoting the building of a high-caliber talent pool for primary and middle-school teaching and research work.

Representatives of CPPCC members and experts offered suggestions at the meeting. Participants agreed that efforts should be made to improve the country's teaching and research system, strengthen the building of the system in rural areas and enhance the work to foster the students' core qualities.
