The National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) has launched a science lecture program to promote science knowledge among the public, with the first session held in Beijing, on Sept 15, the eve of the National Science Popularization Day. 

Hu Chunhua, vice-chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. He said that the lecture program is a concrete action taken by the CPPCC National Committee to implement the important instructions on science popularization and the decisions and plans made by the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China to strengthen the building of the nation's science popularization capacity. The lectures aim to popularize scientific knowledge and improve public scientific literacy. 

Wang Dongfeng, vice-chairman and secretary-general of the CPPCC National Committee, said that the program is an important part of the duties of CPPCC members to serve the people, and encouraged CPPCC members to play their part in the country's science popularization work. 

Vice-chairpersons of the CPPCC National Committee Shen Yueyue, Wang Yong, Chen Wu and Zhu Yongxin attended the event. CPPCC member Shi Yigong gave a lecture titled "The Beauty of Life Science".
