Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the meeting.
Wang said that since the 18th CPC National Congress, the CPC Central Committee has attached great importance to the work related to Hong Kong and Macao, and has put forward a series of new ideas, new thoughts and new strategies in this regard and for the practice of the "one country, two systems" principle. He urged CPPCC members to leverage their advantages to help the youth of the two special administrative regions (SARs) better fit into the overall development of the country.
Wang noted the importance to further study and better understand the central leadership’s important statements on the work related to Hong Kong and Macao, and to enhance the pertinence and effectiveness of CPPCC members' suggestions.
He urged efforts to build new platforms and improve the working mechanism to guide Hong Kong and Macao youth to better appreciate the achievements of national development and major policies, and enhance their national identity and patriotic spirit. He called for CPPCC members to make good use of their positions to actively propose suggestions and provide more effective services to help the youth grasp the historical opportunities of national development, better serve the country and achieve personal development.
The CPPCC members speaking at the meeting called for further efforts to implement the various policies on promoting the integration of youth from Hong Kong and Macao into overall national development, and to organize more exchange activities to help them learn more and better understand the history, culture and current national conditions of the motherland. They also agreed that the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area should evolve as a bridge to link Hong Kong and Macao youth with national undertakings through facilitating their employment and business development in the mainland. Social organizations should play an active role in supporting mainland universities in recruiting and cultivating students from the two SARs, they noted.
