The China Democratic League (CDL) Forum on Science and Technology was held in Shenyang, capital of Northeast China's Liaoning province, on July 25 with a thematic focus on promoting development with scientific and technological innovation. 

In a speech delivered at the meeting, Wang Guangqian, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and executive vice-chairman of the CDL Central Committee, said that technological innovation holds a core position and plays a crucial role in the overall modernization of China. The country has made significant new achievements in scientific and technological development through institutional reform since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. However, it is important to recognize the problems faced by current scientific and technological development, he added. 

Wang called for further efforts to strengthen scientific and technological self-reliance and self-improvement, expand exchanges and cooperation, and give full play to the role of enterprises in innovation. 

He urged the CDL members and organizations at all levels to take advantage of their professional research resources to conduct in-depth investigation and surveys, and put forward quality suggestions on key issues related to the country's technological innovation and industrial development. 

The forum was jointly organized by the science and technology committee of the CDL Central Committee and the Liaoning Provincial Committee of the CDL as well as the province's department of science and technology, and was attended by experts and scholars from all over the country.
