On July 24, the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) held its sixth briefing session on issues of major concern in Beijing, focusing on optimizing the legal environment for the private economy.

Vice-chairmen of the CPPCC National Committee Zhou Qiang, Gao Yunlong, Wang Dongfeng and He Baoxiang attended the meeting.

Officials from the Supreme People's Procuratorate and the State Administration for Market Regulation briefed the meeting participants on the latest progress in the protection of private enterprises and safeguarding their property rights and the rights and interests of entrepreneurs. They also introduced their efforts in optimizing the business environment and promoting the healthy development of the country's private economy.

Attending members of the CPPCC National Committee exchanged views with the participants on strengthening the protection of intellectual property rights and business confidentiality, on clarifying the benchmark for grassroots law enforcement discretion, and on improving the internal law-based governance of private enterprises, strengthening their consensus on enhancing the law-based environment for the private sector.

The CPPCC members agreed that local governments and departments have promoted the healthy development of the non-public sector and the people working within it, and that substantial progress has been made in the rule of law construction in the private sector since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

The participants noted that the recent guidelines issued by the CPC Central Committee and the State Council on advancing the development of the private economy have boosted the confidence of private entrepreneurs and will further promote the growth and strength of the private economy.

The CPPCC members also put forward suggestions on putting greater emphasis on the role of discipline inspection and supervision departments in ensuring stronger legal protection of the private economy, and on conducting special law enforcement campaigns against unfair competition involving private enterprises.
