The Committee on Liaison with Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Overseas Chinese of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) sent a team to South China's Guangdong province to carry out a survey of democratic supervision on the implementation of and suggestions on the outline of the development plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) from July 3 to 7.
Vice-chairmen of the CPPCC National Committee Ho Hau Wah and Leung Chun-ying attended the symposium held during the survey and delivered speeches.
Ho said that it is necessary to seize major historical opportunities in the construction of the GBA and to deepen cooperation among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in such fields as education, medical care, culture, tourism and social security. More facilitation measures should be launched to jointly build a platform for cooperation and development, fully mobilize all sectors of Macao to actively participate in the construction of the GBA, support and encourage Macao residents, especially young people, to work, start businesses, study and live in the GBA, and contribute to accelerating the construction of a world-class bay area.
Leung said that the CPPCC should give full play to its unique advantages to promote practical cooperation among the three regions in the GBA in such areas as talent exchange, medical care, education, social welfare and employment services, and build a quality area for life, work, culture and social governance. More efforts should be made to promote people-to-people exchanges, accelerate the deep integration of the three regions, encourage Hong Kong and Macao compatriots to more actively integrate into the overall national development, and build a strong synergy for the development of the GBA.
The team said that in recent years, Guangdong province has earnestly implemented the outline of the development plan for the GBA, deepened exchanges and cooperation with Hong Kong and Macao, promoted the integrated development of the three regions, facilitated the development of Hong Kong and Macao residents in mainland cities in the GBA, and striven to build a quality living circle that is suitable for living, working and traveling. The research team agreed that it is necessary to clarify the positioning and responsibilities of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao, and do a good job in overall planning and coordination; break institutional barriers, and accelerate the alignment of rules and mechanisms; enhance the balanced and coordinated development of the nine mainland cities in the GBA; and optimize the policies and measures in public services, social security and mutual recognition of occupational qualifications to support Hong Kong and Macao residents to live and work on the mainland.
