Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, said that national undertakings for elderly people have been promoted on all fronts and have achieved remarkable results in the new era. He noted that it is important to align thinking and actions with the decisions and plans of the CPC Central Committee, and to contribute wisdom and strength in advancing the implementation of the national strategy to address population aging and boost the high-quality development of China's elderly care industry.

Wang urged for investigations and research and consultative supervision to help address underlying problems, strengthen public consensus on respecting the elderly, and accelerate the building of an elderly-friendly society through pushing for overall efforts in elderly-oriented adaptation, upgrading and transformation.

CPPCC members and experts attending the meeting called for further efforts to integrate the elderly-oriented concept into the whole process of social governance, and to establish a working system for transformation projects catering to the aging population, such as the transformation of communities, public transportation facilities, and the construction of community canteens for the elderly.

They also agreed to improve home and community elderly care and medical services, make intelligent technology more accessible to the elderly, speed up the integration of internet technology and elderly care services, in a bid to achieve the goals of elderly-oriented home renovations in the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25).
