BEIJING -- A symposium marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of Qian Zhengying, the late vice-chairwoman of the seventh to ninth national committees of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), was held Tuesday in Beijing.
Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC, attended the symposium and met with Qian's family ahead of the event.
Hu Chunhua, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC, presided over the symposium and delivered a speech, calling for following Qian's political character of utter devotion to the Party, her awareness of the Party's purpose of wholeheartedly serving the people, and her scientific spirit of seeking truth from facts and upholding it.
Qian, also an outstanding leading figure in the country's water conservancy and electric power sectors, as well as a senior academician with the Chinese Academy of Engineering, died of illness in Beijing in October 2022 at the age of 99.
